Attend School Today, Achieve Success Tomorrow

Chronic absenteeism in District 88 is at an all time high. Students are missing multiple days of school every week.  Absences have a direct impact on a student's academic and social-emotional progress. When keeping students from home multiple days per week consider these things:

  • One missed day of school represents one day of learning loss for each student
  • Students who miss more than 2 days each month, become less engaged in learning
  • Teachers have to slow down teaching skills to help chronically absent students catch up
  • Regular attendance helps build students confidence in learning and communicating

Parents Help Make Attendance a Priority!

We need parents to be committed to sending students to school everyday. Here are some ideas to help you help us:

  • Discuss the importance of showing up to school everyday
  • Find out if children are engaged in their classroom
  • Encourage after-school activities, sports and clubs
  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine for your children
  • Layout clothes and backpack items the night before
  • Schedule vacations and appointments when school is not in session
  • Communicate with the teacher(s) frequently
  • If a student must miss, request missed material and resources
