Roosevelt Athletics and Activities

Participation in extracurricular activities promotes a feeling of family and belonging. It also allows students to develop themselves physically and emotionally. Students discover talents, gain skills, and have the opportunity to develop character traits like leadership, sportsmanship, and perseverance.

Boy’s Basketball

Coaches Morrow and Washington head up our competitive basketball team. We expect student athletes to maintain a 2.0 GPA or better and remain in good character standing with everyone at RMS.

Girl’s Basketball

The girls on our basketball team maintain good grades, demonstrate good citizenship, and volunteer in our school and community. To be a part of this team, we expect you to represent RMS well and work hard to improve your individual and team skills. For more information, contact Coaches Morrow or Washington.

Our cheer team is sponsored by Coaches Matthews and Ovedje.
No one exemplifies Bulldog spirit more than the RMS cheerleaders! Join us at the next home game, and show your spirit too.

RMS participates in an intermittent soccer league each spring. Our coach, Mr. Christman works with sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students preparing them for competition with area schools. If you’d like to be a part, contact Coach Christman as soon as possible.

Boys to Gents

Boys to Gents is an after-school male mentoring program that focuses on helping our young men make a successful transition from boyhood to manhood. For additional information, please contact Mr. Washington.

STEM is an after-school program, designed by the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, to develop creative, ethical leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It is sponsored by Mr. Williams and Mrs. Peterson.

Fine Arts

Our art classes are lead by Towanda Withers. Open to all RMS students, these classes cover concepts of color, design, perception, shape, and texture. Students develop skills in drawing, painting, and modeling through a variety of mediums.

The award-winning RMS Band is under the direction of Clarence Williams and comprised of 6th through 8th grade students. We also have an advanced band of 7th and 8th grade students.
