Cook County, Illinois

Our District

Located just west of Chicago on Interstate 290, our district is committed to providing a quality educational program for the families of Cook County. Each of our seven campuses employ highly qualified teachers and staff who genuinely care for the students in our charge.

Our Goals

The number one goal of School District #88 is to improve our students’ academic performance. Every decision we make is centered around this goal. But we understand that improving student performance is also linked to:

  • aligning an engaging and relevant curriculum with state standards;
  • providing students with meaningful opportunities to engage with the world beyond their classroom;
  • supporting our teachers’ efforts to grow as professional educators;
  • the hiring and retention of highly-qualified, creative administration and staff;
  • developing effective two-way communication with all stakeholders; and
  • the diligent and strategic use of financial resources.

Programming

We employ a variety of programs and services to meet the needs of our students and the goals of our district, including:

  • After-school programs
  • Peer mediation
  • A home school policy
  • Teacher induction/mentorship program
  • Life skills curriculum
  • Summer bridge program
  • Project “All Stars”
  • Partnership with Proviso Township
  • And many more!

A Message from Our Superintendent

Greetings to the Bellwood School District 88 Community:

Mark Holder, Ed. SFirst and foremost, I would like to extend a warm welcome back! I hope your summer was relaxing, invigorating, and all that you wanted it to be. This year, our district institute days' theme is "education, activate, motivate." We hope the theme resonates throughout the school year. Whether you are administering a school, teaching our students, engaging with parents or students in the office, driving a school bus, preparing meals, maintaining facilities, establishing district policy, or working in any one of the many other important capacities in our district, you are integral to ensuring that our schools are highly effective centers of learning.

District #88's continued focus this year will be on teaching and learning. We have adopted a new science program and are excited by all that Amplify Science offers. We have selected Imagine Learning, which is a program providing individualized targeted instruction, to enhance literacy and math. This year, we will continue our CHAMPS rollout with an emphasis on chapter three, management plan. We are excited about our new Acellus STEM lab at Roosevelt Middle School and look forward to our students becoming familiar with coding. These exciting new programs will have a positive and direct impact for our students and staff.

As Malala Yousfzai, the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, stated, "One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world." My hope is for each of us to be the change agent for our students. I look forward, as always, to our shared commitment in moving the district forward.

Warmly,

Mark Holder
