Thurgood Marshall Elementary

Education at Thurgood Marshall is about collaboration. We know that every kindergarten through fifth grader who walks through our doors has a different set of needs and abilities, but we also believe in the potential of all children to become self-directed lifelong learners. As such, we strive to create an environment where we encourage our students to take risks and become creative producers. To do this, we work closely with parents, teachers, students, and community members, encouraging one another to look at challenges as opportunities in disguise and to take the time to celebrate achievement—both individually and collectively.

A Message from Our Principal

Dear Thurgood Marshall’s Families:

We are off to a great start! We had a fantastic first month of school and it seems as though everyone has made a smooth transition. The progress the students have made in just a few short weeks has been astounding! Please check our website to see what is happening at Thurgood Marshall.

We have set sail! Students have been working toward the completion of the NWEA MAP Assessment. The data gathered will help teachers tailor the curriculum to meet your child’s needs. Please be sure to check in with your child’s teacher for information on how to raise areas of weakness for your child. In addition, I am proud to say that TMES raised $180 to help those families who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. We will give the money to the Salvation Army.

Finally, I want to say thank you to all families who participated in open house. We had a great turn out! Your presence clearly speaks to the value you place on education. Through strong school and family partnerships, students can achieve great things!

I wish you a beautiful fall, filled with good books, real life math experiences, and treasured memories with your families, as we navigate into October.

 Sincerely,

Sarah Kilgore
