Thurgood Marshall Elementary

Education at Thurgood Marshall is about collaboration. We know that every kindergarten through fifth grader who walks through our doors has a different set of needs and abilities, but we also believe in the potential of all children to become self-directed lifelong learners. As such, we strive to create an environment where we encourage our students to take risks and become creative producers. To do this, we work closely with parents, teachers, students, and community members, encouraging one another to look at challenges as opportunities in disguise and to take the time to celebrate achievement—both individually and collectively.

A Message from Our Principal

Dear Thurgood Marshall’s Families:

Bellwood School District 88 will join the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in the sixth statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions. The survey provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers, and parents to have a voice in improving their schools. From December 5 through January 31, we ask that students, teachers, and parents take a 25-minute research-based survey to help identify strengths and weaknesses in their school’s learning environment. The survey results will serve as an opportunity for schools to reflect on progress since the last statewide implementation.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey provides a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture in an individualized report measuring five essentials critical for school success:

  • Effective Leaders
  • Collaborative Teachers
  • Involved Families
  • Supportive Environment
  • Ambitious Instruction

Please take a moment to complete the survey. Your input is valued and appreciated.
