Grant Elementary

A Message from Our Principal

Dear Grant Families:

It is with great honor and enthusiasm that I introduce myself, Robyn Lee-Diaz as the new principal at Grant Elementary and Grant Primary. I’m very passionate about education, and I look forward to partnering with you to provide our students with a rigorous, high quality and culturally responsive elementary school experience. As the parent of three children, I recognize the importance of a strong home-school connection. Parents are every child’s first teacher, and I believe that by working together, we can make sure your child’s social, emotional, and academic needs are met.

Before joining Grant, I served in a variety of teaching and educational leadership roles over the past 13 years. My research interests include teacher training and preparedness along with creating rigorous and viable curricula that promote success and incorporate balanced literacy across subject matters. I have done extensive research in the areas of multimodal literacy and culturally responsive teaching execution with an overarching goal on school improvement and closing the achievement gap. My academic background includes a master of arts in educational leadership, master of arts in English studies, master of arts in school counseling, and I am currently a doctoral candidate in reading, language, and literacy studies at Concordia University Chicago.

In just a few short weeks, we will open our school doors to welcome the entire Grant School Community back to a new school year. Our theme this year, “We do things decently, in order, and with the spirit of excellence at all times” will set the standard for the entire school year. We will continue Ms. Victoria L. Hansen’s work and vision of students becoming global learners who think independently. We will continue our S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) program along with DEAR Writer and Parental Engagement.

I believe that great schools are the results of great teachers collaborating with great families, so I will frequently be in classrooms to ensure that your child is receiving the highest quality of education possible. I will provide teachers with prompt feedback on their instruction, access to professional development, and  I will be reaching out to families for support with academic and behavioral concerns to ensure that our students are prepared for middle school and beyond.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve your families in this role. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, comments, concerns or just to say, “Hi!”
